What can you experience on our Zugspitze trip from Munich?

This day trip takes you through charming Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. You start your ascent with the new Zugspitze cable car, which takes you to the almost 3,000-metre-high mountain peak in just ten minutes. After enjoying the breathtaking view over more than 400 peaks, you can explore the landscape further on a short hike or by sledge.

Unique panoramic view

Experience a fantastic four-country view: The Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain, offers you a unique perspective that extends far beyond borders. On a clear day, the summit terrace opens up a spectacular panorama of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.

A short path leads you from the viewing terraces directly to the iconic summit cross of Zugspitze. Treat yourself to this short climb on your trip to Zugspitze from Munich to experience the symbol of the summit up close and enjoy the feeling of boundless freedom.

For a little refreshment, you can stop off at the Panorama2962 summit restaurant on Zugspitze. In addition to culinary delights with regional ingredients, the panorama restaurant also offers a unique ambience with floor-to-ceiling windows and a breathtaking Alpine panorama.

Snow tobogganing on the glacier

Zugspitze invites you to a tobogganing adventure that will captivate young and old on our Zugspitze Tour. Regardless of the time of year, the glacier toboggan runs provide unadulterated tobogganing fun when there is sufficient snow cover. Three varied toboggan runs, all of which start at the Sonnplain restaurant, promise an exciting and enjoyable descent for the whole family. Toboggans can even be hired free of charge at the toboggan slope behind the Sonnalpin restaurant. So nothing stands in the way of tobogganing fun!

Explore the chapel and Iglo village

Zugspitzplatt is not only home to the highest ski area in Germany, but also the highest chapel in the country, called "Maria Heimsuchung". It was consecrated in 1981 by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI. You can reach it in just a few steps from the Sonnalpin.

We also recommend a walk through the igloo village on your tour to Zugspitze from Munich. Every year, a small but beautiful igloo village is set up on Zugspitzplatt. You can spend the night there and there is plenty on offer. There is an ice bar, a whirlpool and delicious fondue evenings. Even if you don't spend the night in the igloo, you can still visit the elaborately carved interior for a small fee.

Exhibition on the history of the mountain and the surrounding region

For those interested in culture, Zugspitze also offers an exhibition on the history of the mountain and the surrounding region. Here you can find out more about the formation of the Alps, the flora and fauna and the pioneering achievements of the mountaineers who made this place what it is today.

Back on the cog railroad

Experience a nostalgic return journey on the Zugspitze cog railroad: this historic train winds its way through the picturesque Alpine landscape, offering spectacular views of lush green meadows, crystal-clear mountain streams and majestic mountain panoramas along the way. A window seat on the cogwheel train is therefore your box seat for an unforgettable view of the natural wonders of  Zugspitze region at the end of our Zugspitze trip from Munich.
